Some plants can be particularly smelly, so it is best to use a carbon filter in their growing space to absorb the odors emitted by the plants.

The best way is to use carbon filters.

Carbon filters are widely used in various industries. They're perfect for capturing almost 99% of odors and contaminants, so they're ideal for home environments.

But to capture as many smells as possible, where is the best place to put a carbon filter in a growing space?

Our advice:

In our opinion, the best place to put your carbon filters is in the planting tent, at the beginning of the pipe you use. This is probably the most common setup in your ventilation and filtration system, especially when using HPS, metal halide lighting with pipes, or LED plant growth lights. By placing a filter at the beginning of the ductwork, once the smell has passed through the pipe into the filter, there is less chance of leakage from the growth tent.

Inline duct fans set up in this way also tend to be more efficient. With this setup, the fan pulls both smell and hot air away from the growth tent, reducing the chance of anything escaping.

In other places:

If you can't use a filter to set up your growth space in the first place, don't worry, there are a few other places to add it.

Installing carbon filters on the outside of growth tents is another option. Place it at the end of the pipe, but use duct tape to make sure the aluminum foil pipe is completely sealed.

Wherever you place the filter, the goal is to get as much air as possible through the filter before it leaves the space.
